HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS CALL TO FREE NASRIN

20/12/2010
Press release

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its members
organization in Iran, the League for the Defense of Human Rights in Iran
(LDDHI) and the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran (DHRC) express their
support to the Iranian human rights activists, including Shirin
EBADI
, Nobel Peace Prize, who will sit in front of the Palais des
Nations in Geneva, from Monday December (11.30am) in order to obtain Nasrin
SOTOUDEH’s release.

Nasrin SOTOUDEH is a prominent Iranian lawyer and human
rights activist imprisoned since September 4, 2010. Iranian justice charged her
with spreading propaganda and conspiring against state security. She started a
hunger strike on September 25 to protest against the reasons of her
imprisonment and the conditions of her detention.

FIDH and its member organizations call for the immediate release of Nasrin
SOTOUDEH. Ms Souhayr BELHASSEN, FIDH President, will join the sit-in organized
by the Iranian human rights defenders in front of United Nations in Geneva. Ms
Belhassen said she is “very concerned by Nasrin SOTOUDEH’s fate and praises the
Iranian women’s determination, who by their action will allow, we all wish, to
get Nasrin SOTOUDEH’s release.’’

’’We are all Nasrin SOTOUDEH’’, added FIDH President.
