Paris, Guanajuato, 25 July 2019 - The FIDH - International Federation of Human Rights, together with the CMDPDH present, as part of the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF), a Digital Monument to the Fallen Student in the country, an Augmented Reality experience installed to raise awareness about the serious problem of crimes against humanity that are committed in Mexico, particularly in the last decade.

The monument, which will be unveiled this Friday, 26 July at 5 pm at the Guanajuato State Auditorium, is a unique experience that comes to life in real time in front of the spectator, paying tribute to the victims of violence through a three-dimensional animation that uses new technologies to connect more closely and realistically with this troubled situation that keeps Mexico in a terrible scenario from which it cannot seem to extricate itself.

Watch the Digital Monument, installed at the ITESO in Guadalajara, and the reactions of the users here:

Our organizations have been rallying through a variety of judicial, advocacy, and communications actions to have the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigate these crimes in light of the Mexican State’s inability and unwillingness to do so.

The XXII annual GIFF is the fourth headquarters of the Digital Monument to the Fallen Student; the other three (3) are located in landmark places in the country: the Tlatelolco University Cultural Centre in Mexico City, the scene of the massacre of 68 students; the ITESO in Guadalajara, a city where just over a year ago three young students were kidnapped and murdered, and the Casa de la Cultura in the Cultural Centre of El Carmen, located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, the focus of the human and indigenous rights struggle. The monument, built to real scale, will be in operation and available at no charge to those who want to visit it and live the experience at the Auditorium of the State of Guanajuato in the Convention Centre of Guanajuato, calle Pueblito de Rocha s/n. Col. Marfil, from Thursday 25 July at 3 pm until the closing of the Festival.

Through this communiqué, all interested parties are invited to visit the Auditorium of the State of Guanajuato during the XXII annual GIFF. This campaign contains other elements that complement this device, which will be published in the coming days. Watch the animation we have prepared here:
