Government of Burundi downplays risk of Genocide and launches a sordid hashtag #ThisIsMyGenocide
The Burundian government launched, the 22nd of November, the hashtag #ThisIsMyGenocide in order to discredit the FIDHs’ report “Repression and Genocidal Dynamics in Burundi” and to deny the statements made in it. Ever since criticism has spread across social media and despite government partisans relaying the message, the Twittersphere has reacted in shock to the use of the word genocide in a humoristic context.
