European Parliament votes in regulations for the transit and transfer of dual-use items

On 25 March 2021, the European Parliament adopted a new set of rules governing the export of dual-use items during its plenary session. It is the result of a longstanding advocacy of the CAUSE coalition regrouping FIDH and other organisations.

The new regulation marks a substantial strengthening of human rights considerations among the criteria to prevent the possible misuse of certain surveillance and intrusion technologies exported from the EU violating international human rights and international humanitarian law.
