European Union-China relations : human rights must remain the priority

20 February 2023. Amid the resumption of the European Union-China Human Rights Dialogue, Joseph Borrel, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is addressed with this open letter signed by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), and nine other human rights NGOs. In light of the August 2022 report by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the treatment of Uyghurs which “may constitute international crimes, in particular crimes against humanity”, the signatories urge EU to prioritise the topic of the respect of human rights in all its relations with China.
