UN Special Rapporteur calls on EU to rethink its migration policies based on human rights.

During the 29th session of the Human Rights Council (15 June to 3 July 2015), the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants presented a report on the management of the external borders of the European Union and its impact on the human rights of migrants.

His recommendations and conclusions echo those presented by FIDH, namely strengthen the role and independence of FRONTEX’s Fundamental Rights Officer, establish a complaint mechanism for violations and suspend or terminate operations in cases of persistent and serious violations. Moreover, any such violations must be duly investigated and infringement procedures initiated against member States who violate the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights with respect to the rights of migrants.
