17 November 2015. The 57th ordinary session of the African Commission for Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) adopted a resolution calling for urgent authorization by the Burundian authorities to undertake an ACHPR fact-finding mission to investigate human rights violations committed in Burundi.

This resolution follows the resolution adopted on 17 October 2015 by the African Union’s Peace and Security Council concerning the need for urgent measures that include the deployment of a fact- finding mission on human rights violations.

This ACHPR resolution directly echoes the recommendations made by FIDH and the FIDH member organization in Burundi, the ITEKA league at the Commission’s 57th Ordinary Session. Our organisations will continue working with the bodies and institutions of the African Union, the United Nations, the European Union and other relevant actors to arrest the grave violations that are still underway in Burundi and to ensure that the perpetrators be prosecuted by the appropriate courts.
