The third periodic report of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the ICCPR to the
Human Rights Committee as well as the State party’s replies to ‘the List of Issues to be taken up in connection with the consideration of the third periodic report of the Islamic Republic of Iran have failed to demonstrate the State party’s adherence to the basic tenets of the Covenant on every count, i.e. the rights of citizens to liberty and equality free from any kind of discrimination, the right to life, freedom of thought, conscience, religion, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association, electoral rights and rights to due process and fair trial, among others. This briefing aims to address only a few aspects of the expanse of the State party’s violations of the Covenant.
