Investigate death threats against FIDH vice-president Mrs Asma Jahangir

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) expresses its utmost concerns after learning from credible sources that serious threats to the life of its vice-president and internationally renowned human rights defender Mrs Asma Jahangir have been disclosed.

FIDH calls upon Pakistani authorities to investigate the threats and identify their authors, and take immediate action to guarantee the protection in all circumstances of Mrs Jahangir.

Pakistani authorities are responsible to take all necessary action to ensure the full protection of Mrs Asma Jahangir, one of the most courageous and consistent human rights defenders in Pakistan and whose work has been recognised in her country as well as internationally. Other human rights defenders in Pakistan should also be fully protected, said Mrs Souhayr Belhassen, FIDH president.
