Yorm Bopha was released on bail on the 22nd of November 2013 following a ruling by the Supreme Court in Phnom Penh. The land rights activist was arrested in September 2012 on fabricated charges of assault to deter her land rights campaigning. Her case is now sent back to the Appeals Court for further investigation and a retrial.
FIDH, through the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, its joint programme with OMCT, has widely campaigned for her release, seizing the UN’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention last October and releasing a series of urgent appeals. Yorm Bopha also featured in the photo exhibition organised in Jakarta for Human Rights Defenders.
