In the resolution adopted on April 19, 2018, the European Parliament firmly condemns the mass arrest of peaceful protesters, opposition figures, civil society and journalists on Belarus Freedom Day on March 25, 2018 and urges Belarus to respect the right to association, expression and peaceful association, and provide a safe framework for free media, calling for a halt to proposed amendments to the Law on the Media aimed at further curbing freedom of expression.

The European Parliament recalls that Belarus is the only country in Europe that still carries out capital punishment, highlighting a key working issue for FIDH and its member organisations in Belarus who brief the EU institutions.
