African Union - European Union dialogue: Civil society seminar keeps human rights high on the agenda

Some forty civil society representatives from Africa and Europe met on the 9th and 10th of October 2018 for the 8th African Union-European Union Civil Society Seminar on Human Rights.

Participants discussed "youth rights to participation in Africa and Europe" and agreed on a set of recommendations addressed to the AU and EU institutions and their Member States.

For the past eight years, FIDH has been one of the main organisers of this process allowing for the African and European civil society to input into the human rights dialogue between the AU and the EU. This year again FIDH presented the conclusions of the Seminar to decision-makers from both continents at the 14th AU-EU Human Rights Dialogue on the 12th of October 2018. Follow-up to the past Seminars is also yielding results with good progress made this year towards the organisation of an intercontinental event on good practices in safeguards and responses to torture and ill treatment
