This memorial has been set up in three emblematic places throughout the country: the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Tlatelolco Cultural Center, site of an infamous 1968 massacre against students; ITESO University in Guadalajara, a city where three students were recently kidnapped and murdered by the army; and El Carmen Cultural Center, located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, a hub for human rights causes, particularly those of indigenous people. The three-dimensional animation uses innovative technologies and communication codes that allow spectators to immerse themselves in the reality of the crimes against humanity which continue to plague Mexico.
FIDH and CMDPDH collaborate through various actions, including legal action, advocacy and communication, in the hope that the International Criminal Court (ICC) will investigate these crimes, given the Mexican State’s inability and unwillingness to do so.
These life-size virtual memorials are already operational and freely open to those who wish to visit them and be immersed in the victims’ reality. In addition to the memorials, which will be open through August, this campaign includes other materials, including animation.
This augmented reality experience, commissioned by FIDH, was developed by Brinca Taller de Animación.

The Tlatelolco Cultural Center, located in one of the most historic and symbolic areas of the capital, is a multidiscplinary complex at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), dedicated to research, study, analysis and outreach on subjects related to art, history and nonviolence resistence movements.

ITESO, Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education, is a private university located in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Founded in 1957, the institution is part of the Jesuit University System in Mexico and is one of the country’s most prestigious universities, with over 12,000 students.

El Carmen Cultural Center’s “Casa de la Cultura,” located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, hosts a wide array of cultural activities including film screenings, theatre, fine art exhibits and book presentations, as well as painting, drawing, and musical workshops. The center inhabits one of the most emblematic buildings in San Cristóbal de la Casas, constructed in the middle of the 16th century as a Carmelite convent. In 1978 it was adapted to become the home of the El Carmen Cultural Center.

Brinca Taller de Animación has fulfilled a creative mission to produce meaningful animation content for the past seven years. It has worked with international institutions such as UNICEF and FIDH.
