On 4 March 2025, the so-called "conspiracy trial" opened in Tunisia, symbolising the authoritarian drift of Kaïs Saïed’s regime. Forty opponents, lawyers, and journalists are being tried on trumped-up charges in a parody of justice that is entirely under the control of the government.

6 March 2025. Given this political repression and the serious violations of fundamental rights, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the International Committee in Support of Freedoms in Tunisia, set up by the FIDH in collaboration with EuroMed Droits, have sent a letter to the European Union denouncing the highly political nature of this trial and the lack of fair trial guarantees, and calling for international observers to be sent.
