FIDH would like to salute the fight of Lina Ben Mhenni, a figure in the Tunisian revolt and human rights activist in Tunisia, following the announcement of her death on January 27, 2020.

Lina Ben Mhenni had shown her commitment to human rights by documenting the abuses of the Ben Ali regime very early on her blog, atunisiangirl. She was one of the first people to document the protests of Sidi Bouzid, the cradle of the Tunisian revolution, on the spot.

"Her fight has earned her numerous death threats and defamation campaigns, in particular via messages posted on social networks and the Internet. This is only because of her social commitment and her defense of human rights, ”said Alice Mogwe, President of FIDH. "Threatened with death, placed under judicial protection in 2013, assaulted by police in 2014 and even arrested in 2016, then accused of contempt of one or more public officials - those the same who had assaulted her - Lina Ben Mhenni was constantly fighting against a system that she considered deeply unfair. "

FIDH offers its sincere condolences to his family and friends who have remained with her during her years of activism.
