Kamel Jendoubi had arrived on Thursday evening to Rabat airport in Morocco to receive a tribute with other human rights defenders of the region, for his human rights work. He was forced to spend the night on the airplane before going back to Paris where he arrived this morning.
The signing organisations protest indignantly against this unjustified and unjustifiable act which shows how police cooperation in the states of the region act in contempt of the most fundamental rights. The organisations ask the Moroccan authorities to take back their decision and apologise for this action.
The organisations call the French government to urgently intervene with the Moroccan and Tunisian authorities in order for them to stop these acts of intimidation.
As Morocco was recently granted advanced status and as a meeting on human rights issues will soon take place between the European Commission and the Moroccan authorities, the signing organisations call the European Union to request Morocco to respect its own commitments.
