FIDH calls for immediate stop of bombings

The FIDH, while reiterating its condemnation of grave and massive human rights violations by the regime of Saddam Hussein, as well as the Iraqi authorities’ repeated unwillingness to co-operate with the UN Special Commission on Disarmament, firmly condemns the US and British military attacks on Iraq.

The FIDH, while reiterating its condemnation of grave and massive human rights violations by the regime of Saddam Hussein, as well as the Iraqi authorities’ repeated unwillingness to co-operate with the UN Special Commission on Disarmament, firmly condemns the US and British military attacks on Iraq.

FIDH considers as unacceptable that a sole superpower effectively give itself the right to use unilateral and selective force, in total contempt with the UN Charter and principles of International Law.

The FIDH demands that the US bombing operation be stopped immediately ; and recalls that US action, far from shaking the dictatorial regime of Baghdad, has until now, mainly resulted in increasing the suffering of the Iraqi people.
