FIDH and EOHR note the resignation of Hosni Moubarak after nearly 30 years of rule over Egypt and hopes that his departure will be a first step toward democracy for the Egyptian people. Indeed, the former Egyptian President transferred his powers to the High Council of the Army after 18 days of popular protests throughout the country.

that they must, under all circumstances, ensure the full respect for all human rights, including the right to freedom of expression and association,

that they have the obligation to establish the conditions necessary to ensure a quick and peaceful transition towards democracy and respect of the rule of law.
