Report on the situation of migrant workers in Egypt

This paper highlights some areas of concern with regard to the
Egyptian government’s implementation of the International Convention
on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW). These areas of concern are: mandatory HIV
testing and discrimination against migrant workers living with HIV/AIDS; the rights of migrant domestic workers; racist attitudes and racially- motivated identity checks and detentions; conditions of detention, torture and ill-treatment; the status of Sudanese migrants in Egypt; investigations into the killings of 30 December 2005; the rights of Egyptian workers abroad; and restrictions on the activities of NGOs, including those working on migrants’ rights.
