On March 23, the Cairo Criminal Court ordered the provisional release on bail of Alaa Abdel Fatah and Ahmed Abdel Rahman after nearly 4 months of imprisonment.
Alaa Abdel Fatah, civil and political rights activist, blogger and member of the ‘No to Military Trials for Civilians’ and Ahmed Abdel Rahman face a number of charges related to a protest in front of the Shura Council in November 26, 2013. They face up to five years in prison.
FIDH considers this trial to amount to judicial harassment and alerted the international community, sending out an urgent appeal and requesting an independent trial observation for the accused. FIDH calls upon the Egyptian judicial authorities to unconditionally drop all charges.
