NGO "Civil Society Institute" draws the attention to the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to Azerbaijani mass media, in the result of attacking the Azerbaijani Alkhanli village by Armenian armed forces an elderly woman and her 2-year old granddaughter were killed. Another civilian was wounded.

"Unfortunately, this is not the first case of the death of civilians, both Armenians and Azerbaijanis, including elderly people and children, on the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact. It is needed to stop the years-long inhuman practice of targeting civilian settlements. Everyone starting from human rights defenders and international organizations to ordinary soldiers should contribute to this"

FIDH Vice President, the director of the Civil Society Institute, Artak Kirakosyan

Civil Society Institute is deeply saddened by the loss of the lives of innocent civilians and calls upon:

  • The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) to carry out an impartial investigation into the circumstances of an accident and based on the results punish the perpetrators,
  • Confronting sides to refrain from the practice of using human losses aimed at aggravation of the situation and hate propaganda
  • The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), Armenia and Azerbaijan to take effective steps aimed at strengthening the cease-fire regime, completely put an end to the targeting of civilian objects,
  • International community to strongly condemn the targeting of civil objects, as well as to provide comprehensive assistance to ensure safety of civilians.
