Vietnam: Report on the situation of civil and political rights

On 26 May 2025, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) published a shadow report ahead of the review of Vietnam’s fourth periodic report by the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee (CCPR), which will take place on 7 and 8 July 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. The CCPR monitors implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) by its state parties, such as Vietnam.

26 May 2025. The report, produced with the Vietnam Committee on Human Rights (VCHR), provides information on the following issues.

• Implementation of the ICCPR at the national level.
• The death penalty.
• Torture and deaths in custody.
• Detention conditions.
• Right to a fair trial.
• Right to freedom of religion or belief.
• Right to freedom of opinion and expression.
• Right to freedom of peaceful assembly.
• Right to freedom of association.
• Right to vote and to be elected.
