Release of two Vietnamese human rights defenders

On February 6, 2013, Vietnamese blogger Le Anh Hung was released from forcible internment. The latter had been kidnapped and interned in “Social Support Centre No 2” Ung Hoa, a mental hospital, on January 24, 2013. FIDH member organisation VCHR and the Observatory (FIDH-OMCT) had since then mobilised to call for his release.

In addition, human rights lawyer Le Cong Dinh, convicted of subversion in 2010 and condemned to 5 years prison, was released two years before the end of his sentence. In November 2012, following submissions made by VCHR and the Observatory, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention had declared him and his colleagues to be victims of arbitrary detention.
