Thailand signs the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance

Thailand’s human rights record went under peer review by other countries in October 2011 under the Universal Periodic Review. A month before, FIDH and its member organization in Thailand, Union for Civil Liberty, issued an open letter to the Thai prime minister urging Thailand to make commitment to take effective actions to improve its human rights records in several areas, including on impunity. In particular, FIDH and UCL asked Thailand to sign and ratify the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.

On January 9, 2012, Thailand signed the Convention and promised to expedite the ratification process.
