2 February 2023. This joint FIDH-CHRD submission to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee (CCPR) focuses on the Sri Lankan authorities’ systematic failure to comply with their obligations under Article 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) during Sri Lanka’s aragalaya protest movement in 2022. This submission documents the numerous and serious violations of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and related abuses committed by the Sri Lankan authorities, in breach of their obligations under Articles 6, 7, 9, 14, 19, and 21 of the ICCPR.
