Pakistan: Report submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Committee

On 16 September 2024, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its member organization in Pakistan, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), submitted a report to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee (CCPR) ahead of the CCPR’s review of India’s second periodic report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

The report details human rights violations that are inconsistent with Pakistan’s legal obligations under various provisions of the ICCPR with regard to: fair trial rights (Article 14); freedom of expression (Article 19); freedom of assembly (Article 21); the treatment of foreign nationals (Articles 7, 9, 12, 13 and 24); and enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings (Articles 2, 6, 7, 9, 14 and 16).

The CCPR’s review of Pakistan’s second periodic report will take place on 17-18 October 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
