DPRK: UN votes landmark resolution on human rights situation

On 18 November 2014 the UN adopted a landmark resolution on the human rights situation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in light of the recent report provided by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. This resolution evidenced human rights violations within the DPRK and called for the potential referral of the situation to the International Criminal Court.
FIDH joined other international advocacy organizations in standing with the victims of abuses documented by the Commission of Inquiry in a joint communique that called for the adoption of the resolution and action on the Commission’s conclusions. Despite the heated debates regarding the language of the resolution in reference to ICC referral, the resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority.
