On 11 October 2024, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) submitted a report for the fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Laos. The report, jointly prepared with the Lao Movement for Human Rights (LMHR), highlights human rights violations in Laos since the country’s previous UPR in January 2020.

This joint FIDH-LMHR submission focuses on the following human rights issues: 1) elections and the right to participate in public affairs; 2) human rights defenders and civil society; 3) political prisoners; 4) enforced disappearances; 5) freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly; 6) freedom of religion or belief; 7) the death penalty; 8) cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms; and 9) the human rights impacts of large-scale infrastructure and investment projects.

The fourth UPR of Laos will take place on 29 April 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
