In addition to ongoing problems related to freedom of expression and association, repressive legislation, torture and abuse by security forces, the report also highlights the particularly serious human rights concerns raised in 2015 in Bangladesh, including election irregularities and political violence throughout the year, and increasing lynchings and violent attacks against activists and bloggers carried out with almost total impunity.
This report is published as human rights defenders and civil society organisations face increasing repression and obstacles to their work, through legislation violating their rights to association and free expression and access to funding, and threats and attacks at the hands of state and non-state actors.
