Protecting economic and social rights in Panama

On 26 March 2011, Panama passed Law No 415, extinguishing national and international mining concessions on Ngäbe-Buglé indigenous territory and providing that any potential new concessions will be subject to a local referendum.

Since 2011 FIDH had been mobilising against the large-scale exploitation of natural resources in Panama, undertaken without consultation with, or the free, prior and informed consent of, affected communities.
