Brazil-led UN mission is failing Haitians says critical new report
"MINUSTAH isn’t ending impunity in Haiti, it has effectively provided for its continuation"

"Keeping the Peace in Haiti?", a controversial new report on the UN peace-keeping mission in Haiti, will be released at a panel event in the School for Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) this Wednesday, March 23rd, at 19:00 [venue details follow below]. The report will be launched simultaneously at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and at Harvard University Law School in the United States.

The report, a joint project between Harvard Law School’s Human Rights Program and Brazil’s Global Justice Centre (Justiça Global), examines how and why the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) has failed to establish a functioning Haitian state in the past eight months and calls for immediate action to end Haiti’s cycles of violence.

The result of 6 months research led by the Clinical Director of Harvard Rights Program and a Director of Justiça Global, James Cavallaro, this report is based on in-depth interviews with people from a range of sectors of Haitian society on two research visits to Haiti between October 2004 and January 2005.
