The ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, which has intensified over the last 20 months, has resulted in an alarming escalation of human rights violations and atrocities. The recent recapture of Wad Madani by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in January 2025 has led to horrific acts of violence, including extrajudicial executions, revenge attacks, and widespread intimidation, particularly targeting vulnerable ethnic groups. These violations, which continue to plague various regions of Sudan, amount to gross violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law, and have sparked widespread condemnation from the international community.

22 January 2025. The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), alongside its Sudanese member organisations – the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) and the Sudanese Human Rights Monitor (SHRM) – as well as various other organisations, has co-signed a call for urgent action to halt these atrocities and protect civilians from further harm. FIDH has long been at the forefront of advocating for human rights and accountability in Sudan, and its continued involvement in this call highlights its commitment to supporting the victims of these crimes and urging robust measures to address the crisis.
