Open letters to the Sudanese president, the African union and the Arab League

On the occasion of the International Day of Action for Darfur on September 17, 2006, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its member organisations in Africa and Middle East urge, in an open letter, the Sudanese president to consent to the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1706 (2006). FIDH and its leagues also call upon the African Union and the League of Arab States to take all diplomatic measures to secure Sudan’s consent to a UN mission in Darfur and in the meantime, to renew and strengthen the AMIS mandate.
