1 October 2020: 10th Anniversary of the publication of the Report of the Mapping Exercise in the DRC

Ten years after its publication by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Mapping Exercise Report on the most serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law committed on the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) between 1993 and 2003 remains unimplemented.

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its three member organisations in the DRC, the Association africaine de défense des droits de l’Homme (ASADHO) the Groupe Lotus (GL), and the Ligue des Electeurs (LE), call for the report’s recommendations to be implemented and for victims of international crimes committed in the DRC to have effective access to truth, justice and reparation.

They have joined the initiative of the Collective of Young Congolese Volunteer Activists who have launched a memorial of the Mapping Report online sponsored by Dr Denis Mukwege: www.memorialrdcongo.org

Our organisations also support the NGO petition initiated by the National Network of Survivors in DRC, the Panzi Foundation (DRC and United States) and the Mukwege Foundation, to the attention of the Secretary General of the United Nations, calling for support and assistance to the Congolese authorities in the implementation of the report’s recommendations. The petition can be found and signed here.
