CAR: UN sends peacekeeping force

On April 10th, 2014, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to create a UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The mandate of the mission is to protect civilians, support the extension of State authority, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, the protection of human rights, and provide support for national and international justice.

FIDH has conducted fact-finding missions to CAR and has denounced serious human rights violations perpetrated against civilian populations by the Seleka and anti-Balaka armed groups. FIDH has conducted many advocacy campaigns which led the African Union, the European Union, the UN Security Council, and key States to call for the creation of a UN peacekeeping operation. The mandate given the UN mission includes the main recommendations made by FIDH.
