  • On the occasion of the 83rd session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which takes place from 2 to 22 May 2025 in Banjul, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is publishing a note aimed at recalling the importance of the guidelines for combating sexual violence and its consequences in Africa, adopted by the Commission in 2017.
  • As the African Union has just adopted a new Convention on the subject, this document sets out the approaches and effective measures that African states can apply to update their framework for combating sexual violence and protecting their populations, including in crisis situations.
  • This document is a practical tool for civil society and human rights defenders to support advocacy strategies aimed at promoting the implementation of state obligations to combat sexual violence and its consequences.
