FIDH Comments on the Proposed Amendments to the ICC Legal Aid Policy

Press release

On 31 December 2018, FIDH submitted its comments to the proposal of the Registry of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the amendment of the Court’s legal aid policy, focusing on legal aid for victims. FIDH welcomes the opportunity to comment on the proposed amendments and undescores the need for further consultations to improve the current draft policy, circulated in mid-October 2018.

FIDH submits in this instance observations and recommendations on four key points relating to legal aid for victims at the International Criminal Court:
- determination of indigence;
- victims’ choice of counsel;
- field budget for victims’ legal representation teams;
- team composition.
