FIDH called for the Security Council to guarantee an immediate cease-fire, immediate and effective humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population and the deployment of an international independant commission of investigation under the auspices of the UN, with mandate to document the crimes committed in the context of Operation « Cast Lead » and the responsibilities for them.
Gaza – letter to the Security Council
In a letter sent yesterday to the UN Security Council, FIDH President Souhayr Belhassen expressed her « horror at the destruction and the terrible loss of human lives in Gaza » in the context of operation Cast Lead, denoucing the flagrant and serious violation of international humanitarian law, which constitute "war crimes, if not crimes against humanity".
