ProtectDefenders.eu is the European Union Human Rights Defenders mechanism, established to protect defenders at high risk and facing the most difficult situations worldwide. FIDH is the lead partner in the consortium of 12 international and regional NGOs which won the contract to implement the mechanism and is also a member of the management Board.
ProtectDefenders.eu will provide practical support for human rights defenders at risk including through:
– Emergency support for HRDs at risk
– Support to local HRD organisations
– Temporary relocation of HRDs at risk
– Training and information to HRDs at risk
– Monitoring and advocacy
ProtectDefenders.eu has a budget of €15,000,000 over three years and an independent secretariat has been established in Brussels to coordinate the implementation.
