Civil society objects to the World Bank’s draft safeguards

On 22d October 2014, over 300 civil society organisations and social movements, including FIDH, issued a statement objecting to the new World Bank’s draft safeguards for failing short of the rules needed to adequately protect human rights and the environment.

CSOs also criticised the untransparent and non-inclusive way in which the review and update of the safeguard policies has been conducted so far.

Signing organisations call on the World Bank to revise the draft safeguards to ensure it complies with international standards of human rights and environmental protection, and to conduct a process of meaningful stakeholder consultations.
