At its 14th meeting on 1 December 2025, the Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) of the European Union (EU)-Vietnam Trade Agreement - of which the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is a member - stressed that its economic gains are not being matched by progress on human and labour rights. It voiced concern over Vietnam’s continued failure to ratify International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 87 and its insufficient responses concerning other core labour conventions. The DAG also warned that the new Trade Union Law restricts genuine freedom of association and that there is a troubling trend of arbitrary detentions of human rights defenders.
