Michelin positioning on mandatory due diligence

23 January 2023. The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is pursuing intensive advocacy to foster the development of mandatory due diligence legislations as a key step in seeking better respect for human rights by the private sector. In that context, on 23-24 November 2022, FIDH met Michelin and took part in its stakeholder session.

On this occasion, Michelin provided information about its policy presented as aiming to foster the sustainability of its natural rubber operations. FIDH took this opportunity to raise questions and ask details on its human rights due diligence policy and on the adequacy of the tools set up in that regard.

The positioning of Michelin in the legislative processes occurring at the EU level was also discussed, notably on the EU directive on Corporate sustainability due diligence and the regulation on zero deforestation products. At the end of the session, and as a welcomed step, Michelin issued a public statement stating that the Group is supportive of any action and regulation in favour of a sustainable natural rubber industry that takes into account the specificities of the value chain.
