In its annual report, the FRA underlined, the importance for the EU to fulfil its legal obligations in terms of fundamental rights in all policy areas. The agency called for the creation of a ‘ Strategic EU Framework on fundamental rights ’ to ensure full conformity by Member States to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and other standing human rights obligations. The framework would mirror the one adopted in 2012 to orient the EU external action on human rights, and reaffirm the EU and member states’ commitment to protect and promote human rights at home and abroad.
FIDH has been actively campaigning for this development particularly important prior to the EU Council Meeting discussing the priorities and direction of the Strategic Guidelines in the area of freedom, security and justice for the years to come.
