In its conclusions adopted by the Council on 26 February 2018, the EU places a particular focus on Bangladesh as a UN priority « to ensure that enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions by public or private forces are promptly and effectively investigated in an impartial and transparent manner, which ensures appropriate prosecution of those responsible ». In addition, the EU reminded Bangladesh of its obligations regarding the fight against torture, in particular when used by law enforcement personnel and security forces.
FIDH organised a high-level round of advocacy meetings for its member organisation ODHIKAR in Brussels ahead of the conclusions to brief key EU interlocutors from the Council, Member States, EEAS, Commission and European Parliament on the issue of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions and labour rights. The EU’s conclusions fully reflect their recommendations.
