Status: One-year consultant contract starting in December 2017

The consultant will carry out his/her mission together with the head of the FIDH Communication Desk and the FIDH Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Desk.

The consultant’s mission will be to develop FIDH communications in Arabic in the MENA region.

FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights) is an international human rights organisation based in France, whose mission is to promote respect for the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. FIDH is composed of 184 national human rights associations located throughout the five continents.

Mission objective:
To increase the visibility of FIDH and its member organisations, and their actions in the MENA region, and to implement the FIDH communication plan throughout the region.

Job description :
Implement media activities in Arabic
- Draft, post on line, disseminate FIDH press releases in Arabic, and coordinate their translation ;
- Organise media events in the MENA region;
- Develop relations with Arab language journalists (based in MENA and internationally) and international journalists based in MENA, update the database of journalists;
- Media watch over the situation of human rights in the region for the MENA desk.

Develop digital communication tools in Arabic
- Update the Arabic version of tFIDH website, and coordinate the translation of articles from/into Arabic, ;
- Prepare FIDH Newsletters in Arabic and ensure their publicity;
- Write and disseminate “Impacts” articles on the MENA region;
- Provide feeds to the FIDH institutional Twitter account and Facebook page in Arabic and promote them;
- Participate in designing and deploying FIDH communication campaigns in Arabic and ensure they are adapted to the cultural specificities of the MENA region.

Implement communication activities about the MENA region
- Develop communication tools that will facilitate interactions between FIDH and its member organisations in the region;
- Enhance relations with the communications officers of FIDH member organisations in the region;
- Coordinate the organisation of a seminar for senior communications officers of FIDH member organisations in the region;
- Update the lists of the senior communications officers of member organisations in the region;
-  Coordinate the production and recording of interviews and videos;
- Edit translations in Arabic.

Qualifications
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and orally. Fluency in French and/or another language would be an asset.
- Minimum 3 years experience in communication in a country in the MENA region or with Arabic language media;
- Good knowledge of the political situation and, if possible, of the human rights issues in the region.

Timelines:
- Website update: End of January 2018

- Weekly:
5 tweets and retweets
1 Facebook post

- Monthly:
1 newsletter and/or translation of a Newsletter from another language
1 to 2 press releases
Coordination of the translation of 10 to 15 articles

Terms and conditions :
- The consultant shall sign a service provider contract with FIDH and promises, by signing a confidentiality clause, not to divulge his/her work with parties outside FIDH.

Modalités :
- This position will entail some travel to Paris and media hubs in the region.
- International, multicultural working environment.

Status: independent, free-lance
Duration: one year starting in December 2017
Honorarium: US $16,203 for the one year term
