Internship with the FIDH Permanent Delegation to the ICC in The Hague

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is a federation of non-governmental organisations whose objective is to take concrete actions for the respect of all human rights.

In 2004 FIDH established a permanent delegation to the International Criminal Court (ICC), in The Hague, The Netherlands, whose main activities are
- To support local NGOs and victims’ organisations in their understanding of and access to the mechanisms established by the Rome Statute, in particular by organising training sessions on victims’ rights and the ICC, as well as by facilitating dialogue between local organisations and representatives of the different organs of the Court;
- To participate in conferences and meetings organized by or concerning the ICC, with the aim of promoting the development of a fair, efficient and independent institution respectful of all human rights, and in particular the rights of victims; and
- To participate closely to the work and activities of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court.

Intern Position: 6 months as of fall 2018, The Hague, Netherlands

The intern will:
- Participate in the activities of FIDH concerning the ICC (transmission of communications, meetings with ICC officials, attendance to hearings);
- Help prepare for the ICC Assembly of States Parties, including the organisation of side events and drafting of position papers/reports;
- Draft, edit and/or translate papers, summaries, press releases, notes and reports;
- Participate in the daily management of the delegation; and
- Assist in the preparation of meetings with other NGOs, in particular those within the framework of the Coalition for the ICC.

Through the internship, the candidate will work in a diverse linguistic and cultural setting, gaining strategic advocacy and legal skills. The intern will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including diplomats, members of international organizations, the International Criminal Court and human rights activists from around the world.

Requirements: Studies in International or Criminal Law, Political Sciences, International Relations or other similar background; demonstrated interest in human rights and/or international justice; exposure to international organisations and/or international courts, experience in research and analysis. Fluency in English with a good command of French; understanding of Spanish or additional languages an asset.

Duration: 6 months.

Conditions: This internship is unpaid, a stipend for travel to work and lunch expenses will be provided.
