FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights-Fédération internationale des ligues des droits de l’Homme), is an NGO specialized in the promotion and protection of human rights.

FIDH’s mandate is to contribute to the respect of all the rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. FIDH aims at obtaining effective improvements in the protection of victims, the prevention of human rights violations and abuses, and the punishment of perpetrators. The FIDH’s Delegation in Geneva:

- Represents FIDH before Geneva­-based international organizations and institutions, in particular the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and diplomatic missions to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC);

- Organizes the participation of FIDH’s member and partner organizations in the work of UN human rights bodies and mechanisms (support and assistance with regard to the submission of “parallel” or “alternative” reports, lobbying and advocacy, communication, etc.): mainly the UN Human Rights Council (including the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism), treaty monitoring bodies, and special procedures;

- Prepares and implements the interventions of lobbying and advocacy of FIDH at the Human Rights Council, and defines advocacy strategies;
- Feeds UN human rights protection bodies and mechanisms, in particular UN special procedures and OHCHR’s sections and branches, based on information from FIDH and its member and partner organizations and develops the strategic analysis of FIDH on institutional developments and advocacy opportunities;

- Relays, and reports on, activities and events to FIDH’s International Secretariat.

The intern will participate in the activities of the Delagation such as ::

- organizing the participation of human rights defenders and representatives of FIDH’s member and partner organizations in UN human rights mechanisms (Human Rights Council, Universal Periodic Review, treaty bodies, special procedures);
- drafting and circulating FIDH’s documents and communications to relevant UN bodies;

- Attending, and reporting on, relevant UN meetings (HRC sessions, UPR reviews, treaty body reviews, other events and meetings) to brief FIDH’s Representative and Delegate to the UN, and inform FIDH’s management and staff members, as relevant;

- In close coordination with the supervisor, ensuring swift communication between the OHCHR and FIDH’s International Secretariat in Paris on all relevant topics;
- performing logistical and administrative duties.


Enrolled in or holder of a master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, or Human Rights. Demonstrated interest in human rights issues. Knowledge of, and experience with, the UN human rights system, in particular the Human Rights Council, is an advantage.

English: high level of proficiency. Proficiency in French is an advantage.
