FIDH is recruiting a Program officer for its Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Desk (Reference : CP-ANMO-09-16)

35-hours work week (full-time position)

FIDH (International Federation of Human Rights) is a non-governmental organisation based in Paris whose mission is to promote respect for the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. FIDH is a federation of 184 national associations dedicated to the defense of human rights on the five continents.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Desk’s Program officer reports to the MENA desk’s Director and to the Chief of Operations Officer (COO). Her-his responsibilites are the followings :

Contribute to consolidating relations between internal and external actors

- Facilitate communications with member organisations in the region, partners and members of the FIDH International Board;

- Ensure smooth flow of information to members of the International Board, the Executive Board, and the chargés de mission involved with the activities of the MENA Desk activities

- Provide assistance and support to human rights defenders, victims of human rights violations and partners in the field.

Implement the Desk’s action plan

- Prepare, organise and ensure followp up to fact-finding missions, including legal observation, national advocacy and solidarity missions and workshops/seminars in the region.

- Organise, in cooperation with FIDH delegations, advocacy activities with intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) and governments (using relevant mechanisms and organising of advocacy meetings).

- Conduct missions to the field and to IGOs.

- Ensure and coordinate the drafting of denunciation, alerts and information documents, draft fact-finding reports and position papers, including the editorial work of the programme assistant .

- Coordinate the translation and dissemination of documents, in consultation with the Communications Department.

- Participate in meetings with local, regional and international partners.

- Coordinate the implementation of communication tools specific to the Desk, in conjunction with the Communications Department.

- Represent FIDH before IGOs, governments, companies and, as needed, donors and the media.

- Contribute to the programming and reporting of Desk activities and update the activities monitoring chart once a month.

- Contribute to donor calls for proposals and to financial and narrative monitoring of the desk’s action programmes.

Coordinate the work of consultants and partners

Participate in the training of interns and volunteers

Assist with the Desk’s daily administrative and logistical tasks


At least 4 years of professional experience in a similar role in the field of human rights and/or in the NGO sector.

Good knowledge of the MENA region.

Required qualifications: Master’s Degree in Law, International Relations, Human Rights or Political Science.

Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English, and a good knowledge of French are required.

Gross annual income: From EUR 32 500 per annum (over 13 months), depending on experience. Possibility of recruitment at a different level based on a different job profile.
