The FIDH’s Delegation in Geneva

•Represents FIDH before Geneva-based international organizations and institutions, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); in particular, the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and the UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies;
•Organizes the participation of FIDH’s member and partner organizations in the work of UN human rights bodies and mechanisms (support and assistance with regard to the submission of “parallel” or “alternative” reports, lobbying and advocacy, communication, etc.): mainly the UN Human Rights Council (including the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism), treaty monitoring bodies, and special procedures;
•Prepares and implements the interventions of lobbying and advocacy at the Human Rights Council, and defines advocacy strategies;
•Feeds UN human rights protection bodies and mechanisms, in particular UN special procedures and OHCHR’s sections and branches, based on information from FIDH member and partner organizations and develops the strategic analysis of institutional developments and advocacy opportunities;
•Relays and reports on activities and events to FIDH’s International Secretariat based in Paris.

A. Implementing the activities of the delegation

A.1 Contribute to the definition of the strategy regarding the human rights mechanisms at the United Nations institutions. To make institutional appointments and prepare meetings with the political bodies of the human rights protection mechanisms and institutions of the United Nations, to draft files (position papers, referrals, etc.) based on information from the FIDH and its member organisations and partners.

A.2 Follow the developments and news of the IGOs concerned and inform the FIDH geographical and thematic offices of leverage opportunities.

A.3 Participate in the strategic reflection on the interfaces to be conducted, propose action plans. Organise the participation of FIDH member or partner NGOs with political interlocutors and human rights protection mechanisms within the United Nations in Geneva (contribution to the elaboration of interface sheets, reception, assistance in the preparation of advocacy documents, participation in interface meetings).

A.4 Ensure, in consultation with the Communication Department, the dissemination of documents (by email, by posting on the website or in hard copy) to the political interlocutors and mechanisms of the UN, to the representatives of the Member States and to the media.

A.5 Propose and drafting contents aiming at developing a relevant promotion of FIDH’s activities among key actors and the general public in the countries where FIDH’s delegations are based.

A.6 To carry out, on the delegation of the representative, representation activities (taking positions and dealing with issues) with international organisations and institutions in Geneva.

A.7 Participating in the programming and reporting of the delegation’s activities by updating the activity monitoring table on a monthly basis and drawing up interface sheets and activity reports. Making follow-up proposals.

B. Facilitate interaction with internal and external stakeholders

B.1 Contribute to the sharing of information with the geographical and thematic bureaux and with the other delegations on the respective strategies and activities of the bureaux and delegation.

B.2 Contribute to information sharing with external partners and the development of joint strategies.

B.3 Contribute to building a relevant interaction with FIDH member organisations (encourage their reception and support).

C. Contribute to daily administrative, logistical and management tasks
• Participate in the practical training of trainees and volunteers

Candidate profile and other requirements
•At least 3 years of professional experience in a similar position, upon entry into the position;
•Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, or Human Rights;
•Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels;
•Fluency in English and in French, both written and oral;
•Advance knowledge of the UN human rights mechanisms, in particular the Human Rights Council and international advocacy;
•Interested in working in a multicultural environment;
•Good organizational and interpersonal skills;

Terms and conditions of employment
•12 months full-time fixed-term contract
•Position based in Geneva
•Salary 5 000 CHF gross per month + bonus
•Flexible working arrangements, including possibility of working remotely
•Meal vouchers
•100% of the cost of public transport passes paid by the employer.
