A word from Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Prize.

Let us mobilize for a fairer world!

The issues facing us today are increasingly complex. A certain number of states
have ignored the rules of international law to impose relations dominated by force.
Domestically, repression is increasingly often gaining the upper hand over the
respect of rights and freedoms.

I have always been associated with the FIDH, as an attorney and as a defender of
Human Rights. In March 2004, during the FIDH congress in Quito, I had the pleasure
of seeing the association for which I am President in Iran formally become a
member of the FIDH. It is indispensable to conjugate our efforts nationally,
regionally, and internationally so that the respect of Human Rights may
predominate. That is what the FIDH does on a daily basis. It is only by uniting and
coordinating our actions that we will be able to make the principles of truth, justice,
and the respect of human beings prevail.

I would also like to testify to the
tremendous support and solidarity I received when, like so many others today, I was
facing the solitude of my combat and the isolation of detention.

The action of the
FIDH was decisive in breaking this isolation.

Let us mobilize for a fairer world!
